Deer Attacks Driver That Struck It

Deer are often the victim of traffic collisions, but it’s not every day that one fights back at the driver that hit it. That’s one deer you don’t want to mess with.

When a patrol officer was following a car and a deer darted out in front of it, the officer’s dash camera captured some amazing footage. After colliding with the deer, the driver pulled off the road and opened her door when the animal suddenly attacked.

Ellen Sager, the driver in Howell Township, New Jersey, told USA Today it happened so quickly.

“Before I could even get my door open the whole way, it was basically on top of me,” Sager said. “I grabbed hold of its antlers, and put my foot in its chest just trying to keep hm from coming in further. I got him out of the way enough for me to close the door.”

Sager kicked at the deer as it flailed its front legs and fell to the ground, scrambling back into the bushes. The patrolman Nicholas Austin with the Howell Police Department said he couldn’t believe his eyes.

“I’ve never seen anything like this,” he told the paper. “I never once seen a deer try to get into somebody’s car before.”
