Headless Alligators Ignite Mystery in Florida

Florida wildlife officials discovered two headless alligators in a canal near West Palm Beach triggering an investigation. What could have decapitated these gators?

It’s possible the reptiles were beheaded by poachers or rival gators. It’s not unheard of for alligators to attack each other, especially after a video on Youtube which received nearly 4.5 million views. Poaching too is not out of the question as you never know what might motivate someone, especially in Florida.

“It’s very hard to know what happened,” Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokeswoman Carol Lyn Parrish told the Palm Beach Post. “There’s a lot of factors involved. It could have been predation from other wildlife or someone out there who did this.”

Alligator hunting season in Florida runs from Aug 15 to Nov 1, with hunters allowed two alligators per season. Anyone caught intentionally killing an alligator without a permit can be punished with a fine up to $5,000 and five years in prison.
