Giant Alligator a Mascot on Florida Golf Course for Years

At a golf course in Palmetto, Florida there is an exceptional obstacle that comes with more hazards than one. This course comes with a massive roaming alligator like a scene from Jurassic Park.

The 15-feet, roughly 1,000-pound, gator has apparently been a mainstay at the Buffalo Creek Golf Course in Manatee County near Tampa Bay. And according to pro shop clerk Wendy Schofield, he’s actually good for business.

“People have heard that he is out here and that is all they want to see so they will bring spectators to ride so somebody can get a picture,” Schofield told News 3. “He doesn’t bother anybody and they don’t bother him, he’s like a mascot for the course.”

From the man who took the video that has gone viral across social media on Tuesday, Charles Helms, it was the “biggest freeking alligor” he had ever seen. Helms told Fox 13 in Tampa that he noticed it laying in the fairway when he started filming.

“Have you ever seen anything that big?” he asks, as another golfer says, “No, never!”
