If there were ever two guns that symbolized American defense then and now it was the revolver and the pistol. In the Old West, the strong arm of the law meant the end of a revolver, while today’s police officers reach for a pistol.
For an all-American option in both categories, Ruger has been a trusted maker for decades. In the weeks prior to SHOT Show 2016 the company announced recent improvements to popular models.
After polling law enforcement and military trainers, the new Ruger American Pistol, available in 9 mm or .45, better spreads recoil over time and provides more balance than previous versions. It also has an improved trigger and wrap-around grip, among other advanced features.
“The Ruger American Pistol is the most advanced semi-auto pistol we have ever produced,” said Ruger CEO Mike Fifer in a press release. “Rugged, reliable, and a great value in the finest Ruger tradition, the Ruger American Pistol is ready for duty anywhere in the world.”
Another offering from the firearm maker that got a face-lift this year was the Ruger Redhawk Revolver. This revolver was Ruger’s first double-action revolver specifically designed for powerful .44 Magnum cartridges. The latest rendition can shoot both .45 Auto and .45 Colt cartridges.
The new model also features a round butt frame and hardwood grips for a more compact feel.
“The Redhawk has been one of the flagship revolvers in the Ruger line for 35 years, and this is the first time we have produced a Redhawk capable of shooting both a revolver caliber and pistol caliber from the same cylinder,” said Chris Killoy, Ruger President and COO in a press release.
