With spring coming on quickly, and warmer weather melting away the snow pack at Big Powderhorn Mountain in Michigan, organizers of the Red Bull Boundaries endurance race were forced to cancel the much-anticipated event.
Touted as a first-of-a-kind endurance race, the Red Bull Boundaries was designed to push the limits of snowmobile racing competition.
But counting on adequate snow at this time of year is always a gamble, and a stretch of warmer days and higher temperatures was too much to overcome. With rapidly diminishing snow cover, concern for driver and equipment safety was sighted as the reason the race was regretfully cancelled.
The corporate sponsor Red Bull has already announced that it remains committed to the event, and is planning to work with racers, industry experts and factory race departments to bring the endurance race back to the snowmobiling community in 2016.
This year’s event was expected to cover some 30 miles over intense terrain with cash and prizes worth more than $100,000.
The athletes that signed up for this year’s race will get advance notice on scheduling and the location chosen for next year’s event. Future communications on the 2016 Red Bull Boundaries race will also be posted on the company website at
The company expressed their appreciation to the athletes who committed to participate and pledged to make the 2016 event even bigger, better and more exciting.
